Andrews as a teenager. Not her most recent books, but I'm talking about the old style paperbacks of the 1980's.
It's full of mystery, and leads the reader to keep guessing as to how it will end throughout the book until the very last page.
I enjoyed this quick read, and will absolutely check out this authors other books.

Towner Whitney, the self-confessed unreliable narrator, hails from a family of Salem women who can read the future in the patterns in lace, and who have guarded a history of secrets going back generations. Now the disappearance of two women is bringing Towner back home to Salem—and is bringing to light the shocking truth about the death of her twin sister.

Once again, I am entranced by Brunonia Barry's writing style. The descriptions of people, places, and things really make you feel as if you are walking through this book. The Lace Reader is about Towner, who comes back home to Salem, Mass after moving away to California. She has a troubled past which catches up with her as she tries to find answers. Her memory is vague due to shock therapy when she was instituted as a young girl. Good plot. Good writing. Overall, great story!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17066865305932079755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-920433938720195673.post-62702764269409258492017-02-15T08:14:00.002-08:002017-02-15T08:14:49.941-08:00A Dog's Purpose by Bruce CameronHeartwarming, insightful, and often laugh-out-loud funny, A Dog’s Purpose is not only the emotional and hilarious story of a dog’s many lives, but also a dog’s-eye commentary on human relationships and the unbreakable bonds between man and man’s best friend. This moving and beautifully crafted story teaches us that love never dies, that our true friends are always with us, and that every creature on earth is born with a purpose.

This book hit me straight in my heart. I have lost my beloved, Shadow just last Memorial Day of 2016. Shadow was a huge part of my life, and he passed at home just months short of celebrating his 15th birthday. I miss him every moment, of everyday.
On to the book. This book follows a dog that has many lives, many experiences, and a bittersweet ending. I cried during and long after this book. It is written from a dog's perspective, which I absolutely loved. It's sad, funny, and really pulled at my heart and soul. I blazed through this book in two days, and I even inspired my non-reading sister, who adores dogs, to read this book. She also laughed and cried throughout the book.
If you are a dog lover, or have lost a dog, I recommend this book. It gives me hope in finding my very loved and deeply missed, Shadow.
I hope to see you again my fat belly boy, Shadow. I miss you every moment, of everyday. August 18, 2001-May 31, 2016

I finally decided to head down to my local library to check it out.
This story follows the main character, Rachel. Rachel is a divorced alcoholic who endures blackouts due to her excessive drinking. She clings onto the life she once shared with her ex-husband, and how he's now remarried and has a baby with this woman he left her for. Rachel is lost in her own mind, and full on drunkenness. I could not finish this book, simply for the reason that it was tedious, and long winded about her daily train rides, and odd obsession of her own imagination.
I need to stop reading reviews on books that hold high praises, as this book is a total yawn fest.

are born in a glen,
sweet little triplets
will never be friends
Three dark sisters
all fair to be seen,
two to devour
and one to be Queen

Every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.
But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins. The last queen standing gets the crown.

Not many books leave me shocked, and wanting more. This book, Three Dark Crowns...DID!!
Three sisters, all raised in different regions of the magical realm called Fennbirn. One sister, raised an elemental. One sister, raised a poisoner. One sister, raised a naturalist. This book is full of Priestesses, magic, and a few areas of, WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!?!? I loved this book, and I am anxiously awaiting the sequel! The writing is so descriptive, that it really makes your imagination run wild. Recently transplanted from New York City, Sam and her stepmother are not exactly welcomed with open arms. Sam is the descendant of Cotton Mather, one of the men responsible for those trials and almost immediately, she becomes the enemy of a group of girls who call themselves The Descendants. And guess who their ancestors were?

I cannot express how much I absolutely LOVED this book! My husband and I go to Salem every year, so any book that has anything to do with witches, I read. The writing is amazing! The descriptions that Adriana Mathers writes makes you feel as if you are there. This is supposed to be a spooky read, however, I didn't think that it was. I guess it may depend on your level and definition of spooky. Anywho...this book will keep you guessing as to who is doing what, and why. You start to think it's one person, then your mind reverts to someone else. Strange things surround Samantha Mathers, and the ending is a twist. Good writing! It gives extensive detail on every acrylic paint, techniques, points of inspiration, basically everything you need to know about acrylic painting. The book itself is very heavy duty, and extremely detailed. I cannot wait to get started on my first piece!

My favorite quote from this book, "Rain brings us together in one of the last untamed encounters with nature that we experience routinely, able to turn the suburbs and even the city wild. Huddled with our fellow humans under construction scaffolding to escape a deluge, we are bound in the memory and mystery of exhilarating, cofounding, life-giving rain."

This was a short read, and a huge turn around from what I usually choose to read. It wasn't the best book I've read, but I did find it enjoyable.
A quote from the book:
“There are books that are suitable for a million people, others for only a hundred. There are even remedies—I mean books—that were written for one person only…A book is both medic and medicine at once. It makes a diagnosis as well as offering therapy. Putting the right novels to the appropriate ailments: that’s how I sell books.”

I found this author on Twitter, and we were messaging back and forth most of yesterday. He offered to send me his newest book in exchange for my honest review, however, I ended up giving him the wrong email address! I purchased it anyway, due to Scott's advice that he had given me so freely, and he is an author! If no one purchased his books, then he would be writing for free.
Anyways, onto my book review.
The story follows Mr. Mischievious throughout his adventures of making his world more colorful, by sharing his love of art.
The start of this book left me wondering where it was going to end up. It is a fun story, and full of rhymes, and actually reminds me of a Dr. Seuss book. Mr. Mischievious is a very busy man, who is creative and running out of space! I can't wait to read this with my granddaughter. Very fun story line, and a lot of creativity for young minds.
You can purchase this cool book at www.amazon.com, or you can find Scott on Twitter at https://twitter.com/IMAGINOGGIN. But when her mother asks her to handle the sale of Connie's grandmother's abandoned home near Salem, she can't refuse. As she is drawn deeper into the mysteries of the family house, Connie discovers an ancient key within a seventeenth-century Bible. The key contains a yellowing fragment of parchment with a name written upon it: Deliverance Dane. This discovery launches Connie on a quest--to find out who this woman was and to unearth a rare artifact of singular power: a physick book, its pages a secret repository for lost knowledge.

This is my first Katherine Howe novel that I have read. I found it engrossing, and a very quick read for me. The books follows a girl named Connie while she is finishing her dissertation for college, all along while cleaning out her grandmother's home for her to sell, per her mother's request. The home is very old, and has since been entwined and covered in brush and overgrown plants and herbs. Connie finds strange bottles with unknown contents as she's cleaning. She also stumbles upon an old bible with a key that has fallen out of it. Connie examines the key, and tries it in every lock around the home, yet it doesn't fit one door, desk lock, nothing. She puts the key into her pocket, and that is where it stays until she tries it over and again. Connie comes across a name, Deliverance Dane. She also meets a handsome young man named Sam, whom she spends most of her summer with.
This book jumps from 1991 to 1692 back to 1991 to 1692, and so on and so on, in order to explain who Deliverance Dane was, if she were a witch, or if she were just ultimately, falsely accused. Colleen spends all of her summer trying to find some trail of Deliverance Dane, and finds nothing until she plays with the old english wording compared to todays. She has figured out that it is a book that she seeks, and must find in order to solve the mystery of Deliverace Dane.
Her mentor, is beyond obsessed with Connie finding this book. He pushes her to keep looking, and he praises her by telling her how valuable her future will be if she helps him with the upcoming Colonial Association Speech. He is not at all what he seems, and I had a feeling earlier in the book that his intentions were selfish.
I don't want to give any spoilers, so I will close in saying that this is a very good book, and I will definately be reading more Katherine Howe novels.

She has a tumultuous relationship with an abusive boyfriend, a dead-end job at a newspaper, and a sharp intelligence that’s constantly at odds with her many bad decisions. When her initial attempts to improve her life go awry, Elsie decides that a dramatic change is the only solution.

I am having a difficult time finishing this book. I keep picking up, read it for awhile, become bored with it, then set it back down. Elsie is an aimless drifter who travels from California, to Paris, to Sri Lanka on her dads dime. She's searching for something, however, she has yet to find it. I am really trying to finish this book, but I find it a waste of time spent on a book as monotonous as this one is.

I contacted Kate at Read Dog Book Monthly Subscription, to ask if she would be willing to send me a sample box to see what they have to offer. You fill out a questionnaire so they can match you with a book that you will enjoy. Their monthly box costs $24 plus s&h. Here's what's in the box-
-A hand written, personalized note
-1 Book
-2 Bookmarks
-1 Read Dog Sticker
-1 Tea Bag
-Handpicked SWEETS, and with Easter just around the corner, she included cute Easter eggs with my sweets tucked inside.
The only disappointment that I had was that the book I received is older, and not a newer release.
Overall, I am extremely pleased with my box!
Please check them out, and give Kate a shout! She is very prompt with her responses!
Thank you, Kate for sending me such an adorably themed book box!
